After your job interview

Step 1...

  • If they offer you the job, be prompt with your response.  If you are going to accept the job – well done!  If for some reason you are not going to accept the job, make sure you are prompt with your reply so the company can offer it to someone else.

Step 2...

  • Write to the company to thank them for inviting you to the interview if you didn’t get the job.  Show an interest in any future jobs that may become available at the later date.

Step 3...

  • Review the interview.  Spend some time thinking about how the interview went even if you didn’t get the job.  You could make a note of the questions you were asked and think about how well you answered them.  Work out what went well and what you could improve next time.  This will help with your preparation next time you are invited for an interview.
  • Ask for feedback.  Most companies will be happy to spend some time with you explaining why you didn’t get the job.  You may not have done anything wrong, but there may be some things that you can do to improve for your next interview.

Step 4...

  • Carry on applying for other jobs while you are waiting to hear about this one.  If they do not offer you the job you may have lost some good opportunities by not continuing with your job search.
  • If you have more interviews you will get better at them. Practice makes perfect.

Step 5...

  • Be proud of yourself. You did very well to get to the interview stage and you must be making good applications. Remember they interviewed you because they thought you were capable of doing the job.
  • Keep up the good work - you will be successful in the end.
