Writing job related letters

There are a number of different letters that you may need to write to employers or potential employers.  Here’s some of the more common ones, with advice on what to say in them.

Writing a covering letter
This is a letter you would write and include with your application form.

Writing a leter of application
Some smaller employers may not use application forms.  They may ask you to write a letter to them giving them details of your skills and qualifications.  You would use a letter of application in this case.

Writing a speculative letter

You would use this kind of letter if you wanted to write to a company to ask if they have any vacancies.
