AS and A levels

AS and A level qualifications are available in a wide range of academic subjects, as well as some 'applied' (work-related) subjects. They are at level 3 of the National Qualifications Framework.

  • AS (Advanced Subsidiary) levels are taken after one year of study and can be either free standing qualifications, or count as the first half of a full A level. The AS level makes up 50 per cent of the overall A level grade.
  • A (Advanced) levels are taken after a second year of study designed to deepen the knowledge gained during the AS level.

Students may choose to incorporate AS and A levels into the Advanced Diploma as additional and specialist learning.
