Money for study 

Staying in learning can increase your son or daughter’s future earning power, their chances of being employed and their chances of progressing at work.

There is financial support available to help young people stay in learning/training and gain valuable qualifications.

Discretionary Learners’ Support Fund.

From September 2011 there will be money to help some learners  to continue with their studies. This will be applied for directly from your school or college. The details of what support will be avaialable is currently being developed and there will be more information on the www.direct.gov.uk/moneytolearn website over the coming months. Your school or college may also be able to tell you more.

Child Benefit

Parents and carers usually continue to receive Child Benefit when a young person stays in full-time further education or approved training after they reach the statutory school leaving age. You can find out more on the Child Benefit section of the Directgov website

Higher Education

If your son or daughter is thinking of entering higher education, ie to study for a degree at university or college, there is financial help available. Take a look at the Young People section of this website for more information.
