Jobs

If your son/daughter is thinking about leaving full-time learning after year 11, it’s extremely important that they look for a job that guarantees they can study for more qualifications while they’re earning a wage. Look at it this way - if your son/daughter should lose their job, for whatever reason, it will be easier to prove to another employer that they’ve got the skills required if they’ve got work-related qualifications. It will also be easier for them to go back into education if that is what they want to do.

Some employers run their own training programmes that lead to nationally recognised qualifications. Some employers even support trainees through to degree level. But take care. Some employers claim to offer training, but it may not lead to nationally recognised qualifications and it may not help your son/daughter make progress in their chosen career.

Your son/daughter should always ask the company to let them have details of their training programme and talk to their Connexions Personal Adviser before accepting the job.
