Whatever your son or daughter wants to do in the future, it’s important that they gain qualifications and develop skills. Qualifications will help to improve their long-term career prospects, possibly leading to better pay, promotion and job security. So learning shouldn’t stop when working starts!
Jobs with training
When searching for jobs, your son/daughter should find out whether the employer offers training. Maybe the opportunity to go to college or to a training provider to study and learn more skills on a day-release scheme. Or they could offer on-the-job training at work.
Whatever the type of job they are looking for, getting more skills and qualifications is always important.
Some young employees have the right to ask for time off for study or training.
If your son or daughter is aged 16 – 17 and they:
they could be entitled to paid time off work to study or train for a nationally recognised Level 2 qualification that will help improve their future work prospects.
Certain employees aged 18 also have the right to reasonable paid time off work to complete study or training already started.
