Help with childcare while you learn

If you’re a single parent, under 20, and you want to continue (or re-start) your learning, then Care to learn is there to help you.

What can I get?

Care to learn is a weekly payment of up to £160 per child (2009/10 figures) to help with the cost of whatever registered childcare you choose to use while you’re studying. It also includes your travelling costs to and from the childcare provider and college.

You can choose from registered:

  • childminders
  • day nurseries
  • playgroups
  • out of school clubs and more.

…whatever's best for you and your family.

What can I learn?

The hardest bit is deciding what to study! The subject or course you take is entirely up to you – and you can choose whether you want to turn it into a qualification or not. The most important thing is that you choose something that suits and interests you.

There are no set hours - so you can choose to study part time or full time. What’s more, you can take a course or learning programme that lasts only a few days, or several years.

I’m interested – how can I find out more?
