Where to get help

It may take a while to find your ideal job – but help is close at hand.

If you’re looking for a job, simply visit your local Connexions Centre. Our Personal Advisers are specially trained to help you with:

  • job hunting
  • interview techniques
  • creating or updating your CV
  • Apprenticeships
  • training at work
  • employment rights and wages
  • access to computers to search for job vacancies
  • …and lots more

You might also like to consider applying for a full-time course in the kind of work you want to do. This way, if you can’t find an employer, you’ll be picking up valuable skills that can improve your long-term chances of getting employment - it could even improve your future promotion prospects. Sometimes the qualifications you get at college can count towards an Apprenticeship or you can move into an Apprenticeship once you become employed. If this is something that might interest you, ask your Personal Adviser about local training opportunities.

If you’re over 18 and you’re claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance, there’s a Government programme called New Deal that gives you the help and support you need to get into work. To find out more about New Deal for Young People, contact Jobcentre Plus by visiting www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk.
